The Boston Celtics, entering the midway point, have yet to meet any sort of expectations for a squad whose core led them to two out of three Eastern Conference Final appearances just a couple of years ago.
The team’s 25-year-old All-Star, Jaylen Brown, has shown outstanding improvement when he has been healthy on the court.

The guard out of California, in his 23 outings, is now putting up 24 points per game with six rebounds and shooting 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from three.
With his 50-point, 11-board, four-assist, and two-block performance against Orlando, which helped lead the Celtics to a much-needed win, Brown became the fourth Celtic in franchise history to record a 50 and 10-rebound game. He joined Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and teammate Jayson Tatum.
Head coach Ime Udoke touted his confidence in Boston’s two young stars when he joined the team this past offseason:
“It is something that you see in the perception of them outside of this organization is All-NBA-level players, MVP-caliber players and getting to know them over the last few years, you have seen their growth. They have taken huge leaps this past year and we look forward to them continuing in that progress. Like I said, the sky is the limit with those guys.” – Head Coach Ime Udoka during his introductory press conference.
Brown has missed 14 contests this season due to hamstring issues and potentially jumped the gun in his first return back to action. When he has been on the floor healthy, he has shown another leap in his game.
Though the Celtics have obviously made it known that they have no interest in breaking up their tremendous duo by dealing Brown, there are plenty of teams on the market who would thrive with him.
What teams around the league would benefit from Brown’s two-way presence?

NBA Trades: 4 teams that should want Jaylen Brown – Portland Trail Blazers

To call this season a struggle for the Blazers may be an understatement. They are now 14-22 with three wins in their last 10 games.

Defense has never been their strong suit. They have been ranked in the bottom five in that category for most of the 21-22 campaign. It doesn’t get any better on the other end, as Portland is pretty down there on that side as well.

It has not helped that their two-guard and second-leading scorer CJ McCollum has been out since the beginning of December with a collapsed lung, but the team could use significant help on both ends of the floor.

With free-range next to Damian Lillard and/or McCollum, Brown’s newly elite-handle and offensive capabilities could instantly bring a jolt. Not to mention the defensive prowess that the Blazers have for so long desired.

Like any organization that could use a two-way, all-around wing, there is no reason why Brown could not score 25+ points and bring an elite defensive presence. He hasn’t even entered his prime yet.

NBA Trades: 4 teams that should want Jaylen Brown – Philadelphia 76ers

Knowing Daryl Morey, there is likely no scenario in which Boston gets Ben Simmons without giving up Brown. For <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/01/05/nba-trades-jaylen-brown/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/PHI/" ref="nofollow">Philadelphia, the fit next to Joel Embiid makes perfect sense.

The 76ers, just heating up now, sit at sixth in the East, would thrive with a player like Brown.

He could be their main-scorer next to Embiid while providing his forever-evolving offensive mastery from mid-range to go with his excellent defense.

Not to mention, he gives Philadelphia what Simmons never brought – consistent perimeter shooting from the outside.

NBA Trades: 4 teams that should want Jaylen Brown – Washington Wizards

It would be extremely difficult to imagine this deal happening given the fact that Bradley Beal is a free agent to be this summer, and Brown is under contract still. But as we have seen in the NBA before, anything is possible.

With rumors already linking to Tatum’s life-long best friend to Boston, the main idea would be to team the three up, giving Boston its third star. Otherwise, the Celtics are back in the same boat with even some added age.

Washington however, should want Brown, who could thrive in that destination. The sky would truly be the limit for him with the new foundation the organization is building.

They clearly have good pieces under contract like Spencer Dinwiddie as the point, Kyle Kuzma’s revamped career, and Montrezl Harell’s energetic play.

Brown as the two-guard would be a nice player to lead them as he continues his evolution into what is setting up to be an iconic career. He still has plenty of room to grow as a player, too.

Meanwhile, Beal could potentially bring Boston some playmaking to go with his 20-plus points. He is averaging six assists this season with nine games of eight or more.

NBA Trades: 4 teams that should want Jaylen Brown – Boston Celtics

Although there is a lot of noise surrounding the two with the state the team is currently in, trading Brown seems very unrealistic. The Celtics should want Brown most of all.

As many analysts say, the Celtics are fortunate to have a duo like this with little to no holes and to have the playoff experience they have at such a young age.

On and off the court, their chemistry is only evolving, as is their all-around games.

“It is not about should we break them up, it is about, ‘Can we construct a better team through a possible trade?'” Jeff Van Gundy said. “I think both are really good players, I think the season has been sort of screwed up with all this COVID and everybody is out. It is really hard to know if you are Brad Stevens and Ime what you truly have.”

<a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/01/05/nba-trades-jaylen-brown/"https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jeff-van-gundy/id986595124?i=1000546517571%22 target="_blank" rel="noopener">Van Gundy was not shy to describe how the idea could be open-ended based on some of the tension the Celtics have dealt with as well.

“I just wish they seemed like they were not fighting each other, but fighting their true opponents,” he said. “Sometimes I think that they seem to be fighting, not even each other on the floor, but what they say after the game.”

JVG continued to use examples, such as Marcus Smart calling out the team to the media or Brown dismissing Al Horford’s comments when he said that the team has to look in the mirror.

The Boston Celtics are more than grateful to have the two young franchise cornerstones, both of whom have shown glimpses of pure greatness. Now, it is time for them to make it work.

“When you have two foundational young pillars like those two, it is exciting to build around them, continue to help them grow and reach their potential,” said Udoka. “The sky is the limit with those two, we are excited to work with them and continue to see them grow throughout their career.”
