According to Matt Moore of Action Network and Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, Indiana Pacers star Domantas Sabonis “wants out.”
This news comes not long after reports surfaced that the Pacers will likely be beginning a rebuild this season. According to those reports, Sabonis, Myles Turner, and Caris LeVert could all be on the chopping block.
Sabonis is a two-time All-Star and a constant threat to put up a triple-double. He’s a great post scorer, an amazing passer, and one of the better rebounders in the league.
There will surely be plenty of teams interested in his services this year. What are some NBA trades that could help find Sabonis a new home?
Blockbuster NBA Trades to find Domantas Sabonis a new home: Los Angeles Lakers
Lakers receive: Domantas Sabonis
Pacers receive: Talen Horton-Tucker, DeAndre Jordan, Kent Bazemore, 2025 First-Round Pick, 2028 First-Round Pick, 2023 Second-Round Pick
Out of all the prospects the Indiana Pacers could get, Talen Horton-Tucker might be towards the top of the list. The youngster is oozing with potential, but potential isn’t what the Los Angeles Lakers need right now.
Adding another All-Star player to the Lakers roster seems crazy, but with the amount of money Sabonis is making, it’s not impossible. This trade would give them another guy who can put up 20 points a night.
Sabonis could fill in at center, allowing Anthony Davis to play power forward (which he desperately wants to do). It would also give Los Angeles a much better post presence than they already have.
Meanwhile, the Pacers get a prospect who, in the right situation, could have some amazing upside. Add in the fact that they’d get two unprotected firsts and a second, and this deal is pretty good for them. (Both DeAndre Jordan and Kent Bazemore could simply be waived or bought out).

Blockbuster NBA Trades to find Domantas Sabonis a new home: Dallas Mavericks

Mavericks receive: Domantas Sabonis

Pacers receive: Dwight Powell, Josh Green, Moses Brown, 2022 First-Round Pick, 2024 First-Round Pick, 2026 First-Round Pick (Swap)

This trade would send Domantas Sabonis to the Dallas Mavericks, forming a big three of Sabonis, Luka Doncic, and Kristaps Porzingis. A deal like this would help both sides.

The Mavericks would get the third star they (likely) have been looking for. It would also add another ball-handler to the mix, something the team wants, although Sabonis would mainly handle the ball in the post.

Having Sabonis would also allow Porzingis to spend more time around the perimeter. Sabonis can dominate the paint on offense, leaving Porzingis plenty of room to work.

With Tim Hardaway Jr. struggling, the team could use an extra scoring punch. Add in the fact that Sabonis is on a fairly cheap contract for his talent, and this is a no-brainer for Dallas.

For the Pacers, they would be getting two young prospects and a boatload of picks. That’s where the value is going to lie for them moving forward.

Josh Green hasn’t shown much with the Mavs so far, but a change of scenery could be exactly what he needs. As for Moses Brown, he showed some real potential in Oklahoma City last year, so the Pacers could give him a chance to expand upon that.

The two unprotected picks and one first-round pick swap would be what seal the deal for Indiana in this trade, and Dwight Powell is simply involved to match salaries.

Blockbuster NBA Trades to find Domantas Sabonis a new home: Boston Celtics

Celtics receive: Domantas Sabonis

Pacers receive: Romeo Langford, Kevin Knox, Juancho Hernangomez, 2022 First-Round Pick, 2024 First-Round Pick, 2023 Second-Round Pick, 2024 Second-Round Pick

Knicks receive: Dennis Schroder

This three-team trade would satisfy all parties. The Indiana Pacers get to rebuild with some picks and young assets, the Boston Celtics get a third star, and the New York Knicks get some added guard depth.

There have been some rumors as of late that the Celtics are looking for a third star to pair alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Domantas Sabonis could be that guy.

Sabonis could start next to either Al Horford or Robert Williams and provide an extra scoring threat within Boston’s offense. He would also take some of the ball-handling duties off of Tatum and Marcus Smart in the half-court.

Indiana would be getting Romeo Langford, a prospect who’s shown the potential to be a two-way threat, Kevin Knox, a young player who could use a change of scenery, and a bunch of picks.

This is a solid haul if they plan to begin a full-scale rebuild. Juancho Hernangomez would be thrown in to match salaries, but he only has one year left on his deal anyways.

Lastly, the Knicks would find a cheap option to help shore up the guard depth that they had hoped Kemba Walker would provide. Dennis Schroder would certainly help them in their hunt for the playoffs.
