5 roster moves the New York Knicks need to make this offseason

The New York Knicks’ 2021-22 season was one they would rather forget. They went from a top-four seed in the 2020-21 season to missing the Play-In Tournament in 2021-22. Part of the reason for this was the injury issues suffered at the point guard position.

The other factor was that Julius Randle was less effective than he was the previous season. The Atlanta Hawks showed how to defend Randle and the Knicks in their first-round playoff matchup last season, and the rest of the NBA followed suit this season.

They then added some quality offensive players in Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker. Unfortunately, this did not have the impact the Knicks wanted. They were better offensively, but it had an adverse impact on their defense, which is what got them to the playoffs last season. Now, let’s look at the roster moves for this season which will help the Knicks rise up the standings.

Roster moves the New York Knicks need to make this offseason: 1. Move on from Cam Reddish

The Knicks made a trade this season, bringing Cam Reddish and Solomon Hill to the franchise, and only giving up Kevin Knox and a conditional pick via the Charlotte Hornets. While it looked like the Knicks won this trade, this was not the case at all.

Reddish had the worst plus/minus of any player on the Hawks until traded, and this trend continued with the Knicks. He also came to the Knicks injured and finished the season out with another injury. This has been the story of Reddish for the past few seasons, and the Knicks need players who can get on the court to help this team.

The young wing has a team option for ext season worth just under $6.0 million. The Knicks would be in a better position if they used that money elsewhere.
